Zero Emission Small Vehicle with Integrated High Temperature Battery and Fuel Cell

Brief Description

The most important innovative element, is the electrical integration of a small hydrogen fuelled PEM fuel cell with a maximum power output of 8kWe together with a high temperature 'ZEBRA' battery of 64kWe, providing a complete power source for the traction and passenger heating/cooling of a medium sized vehicle. In this project, a taxi has been chosen as the ideal market potential.

Benefits

Allow a good commercially sound application to be demonstrated emphasising the integration of two traction power sources.

Progress So Far

All components have been sourced and ordered. The traction system has been installed and the taxi has arrived at Beta R&D for the fitting of the battery system, chargers and controllers; the fuel cell system and hydrogen supply and various vehicle ancillaries. Following a short period of static testing to ensure everything works together as expected, the vehicle will progress to 'on-the-road' testing to determine the practical benefits obtained by the hybrid combination. It is expected that the project will be completed within the extended time period allowed.
